Stocky,dark ibis with relatively stout downcurved bill. Has white shoulder patch and reddish legs. Appears bulky and broad winged in fight, with only the feet extending beyond tail. Adult has naked black head with rednape, and is dark brown with green-and-purple gloss. Immature dark brown, including feathered head.
The habitats this bird is found at is lakes, marshes, riverbeds and on irrigated farmlands
insects, frogs, and other small vertebrates as well as grain.
The red-naped ibis (Pseudibis papillosa) also known as the Indian black ibis or black ibis is a species of ibis found in the plains of the Indian Subcontinent. Unlike other ibises in the region it is not very dependent on water and is often found in dry fields a good distance away from water. It is usually seen in loose groups and can be told by the nearly all dark body with a white patch on the shoulder and a bare dark head with a patch of crimson red warty skin on the crown and nape. It has a loud call and is noisy when breeding. It builds its nest most often on the top of a large tree or palm.
कंधे पर सफेद पैच और लाल पैर है. उड़ाते समय इसके पंख भरी और व्यापक दीखते है, उसके पैर पूंछ से बहार निकलते है. वयस्क को लाल सिर होता है और गर्दन बिना पर वाली होती है. और वह चमकीला बेंगाणी और गहरे भूरे रंग का होता है. अपरिपक्व गहरे भूरे रंग का और गर्दन परो वाली होती है.
इस पक्षी का निवास स्थान झीलों, दलदल, नदी के किनारे और सिंचित खेतों में पाया जाता है

रेड-नैप्ड आइबिस (स्यूडिसिस पेपिलोसा) जिसे भारतीय ब्लैक आइबिस या ब्लैक आइबिस के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के मैदानों में पाए जाने वाले आइबिस की एक प्रजाति है. इस क्षेत्र में अन्य आइबिस के विपरीत यह पानी पर बहुत निर्भर नहीं है और अक्सर सूखे खेतों में पानी से अच्छी दूरी पर पाया जाता है.
