This medium-sized bronze brown cormorant is scalloped in black on the upper plumage, lacks a crest and has a small and slightly peaked head with a long narrow bill that ends in a hooked tip. The eye is blue and bare yellow facial skin during the non-breeding season. Breeding birds have a short white ear tuft. In some plumages it has a white throat but the white is restricted below the gape unlike in the much larger great cormorant. Sexes are similar, but non-breeding adults and juveniles are browner
Large freshwater wetlands, marshes, estuaries; brackish tidal creeks and mangrove swamps.
Diet mainly fish. Feeds primarily by pursuit-diving. Often forages in co-ordinated groups.
Harsh croaks at nest.
The Indian cormorant or Indian shag (Phalacrocorax fuscicollis) is a member of the cormorant family. It is found mainly along the inland waters of the Indian Subcontinent. It is a gregarious species that can be easily distinguished from the similar sized little cormorant by its blue eye, small head with a sloping forehead and a long narrow bill ending in a hooked tip.
मध्यम आकार के कांस्य का भूरा शावक ऊपरी तल पर काले रंग का होता है, जिसमें शिखा का अभाव होता है. जिसका सर थोड़ा चोटीदार होता यही और चोंच लंबे संकीर्ण होती है जिसका सिरा हुक की तरह जुका हुवा और नुकीला होता है. गैर-प्रजनन के मौसम के दौरान आंख नीली और चेहरे की त्वचा पीली होती है. प्रजनन करने वाले पक्षियों में एक छोटा सफेद कान होता है. कुछगले के पर सफ़ेद होते है, लेकिन ग्रेट कोर्मोरेंट के विपरीत सफ़ेद गैप के नीचे प्रतिबंधित होता है. लिंग समान हैं, लेकिन गैर-प्रजनन वाले वयस्क और किशोर भूरे हैं.
बड़े ताजे पानी के वेटलैंड्स, दलदली भूमि, मुहाना; खारे ज्वार की लताएं और मैंग्रोव दलदल.
आहार मुख्य रूप से मछली.
घोंसले में एक croaks कर्कश आवाज करते है.
भारतीय कॉर्मोरेंट या भारतीय शैग (फलाक्रोकॉरैक्स फ्यूसीकोलिस) कॉर्मोरेंट परिवार का एक सदस्य है. यह मुख्य रूप से भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के अंतर्देशीय जल में पाया जाता है. यह एक भयावह प्रजाति है जिसे आसानी से अपनी नीली आंख, छोटे सिर के साथ एक लंबी संकीर्ण चोंच के जिसकी नोक जोकि हुई होती है जिससे आसानी से पहचाना जा सकता है.
