IDENTITY: of Persian Shearwater
Slightly larger than Audubon's, with longer, broade wings, shorter tail, and longer paler bill. Browner coloration to upperparts than Audubon's. less white on underwing-coverts (with brownish leading edge), and brownish axillanes and fan Flies with fairly fast wing-beats interspersed with short glides low over the sea, although e rises in low arcs in strong winds.
HABIT AND HABITAT:
Habits are similar to Audubon's. Mainly offshore wate also pelagic.

The Persian shearwater (Puffinus persicus) is a seabird in the family Procellariidae formerly lumped in with Audubon's shearwater (Puffinus lherminieri). A relatively small shearwater with uniformly white underparts. The upperparts are pale brown throughout with some of the brown extending to the flanks. The wings are almost entirely brown except for a white shaft down the middle. Though small in size it is heavily built with proportionally broad wings. Flies low over the water with a purposeful and fast flight and smooth gliding. Feeds off the water surface and occasionally makes shallow dives.
